Organizer, Planner, Advocate,

Public Servant.

Reeves is a community organizer, public servant, worker advocate, outdoor enthusiast, and housing activist with a vision for a better and more equitable Raleigh.

Born at Rex Hospital, graduated from Wake County Public Schools and NC State University, Reeves has spent over three decades here in Raleigh. He was raised by parents who are also public servants, and moved here from small rural towns with a deep understanding of how Raleigh represents a beacon of opportunity across our state not just now, but as it has for decades.

After finishing a master’s degree at Cal Poly State University, Reeves worked in agriculture technology in the Bay Area of San Francisco for six years. Saddled with student debt and facing the impossible housing realities of California, he began organizing neighbors and tenants in San Francisco for renter’s rights, public housing development, and fair local taxation. After volunteering and working on campaigns for several years on nights and weekends outside his full-time job, he returned to NC to fight for criminal justice reforms here in Wake County.

Reeves works to organize and promote working-class leaders and community development campaigns in the rural counties that surround Raleigh, such as Johnston and Granville with Down Home NC. Through this, he’s organized campaigns that won funding for new public park facilities in Oxford, elected Oxford’s first Black Mayor and elected Granville’s first Black Sheriff. Through this, he’s gained experience with the stark reality of how failing to equitably plan in Raleigh not only hurts regular Raleighites, but also creates sprawl and environmental injustice that hurts our neighbors on the edges of the Triangle.

Currently serving as a Raleigh Planning Commissioner, Reeves has been a voice on the Commision for affordability, strong neighborhoods, community engagement, expanding public recreation, better walk/bike/public transit options, and an end to car-centric sprawl. Reeves has had the opportunity to write recommendations to our current City Council on pivotal projects for our City’s future such as Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), Transit Overlay Districts (TODs), 100% affordable housing projects, how to better protect our drinking water in the Falls Watershed, and improving our Comprehensive Plan.

Reeves lives in District C near downtown Raleigh and soaks up every chance to walk, bike, and enjoy the amazing growth of our blossoming urban center. He’s the Chair of Precinct 01-26 with the Wake County Democrats, an avid fisherman, surfer, camper, soccer player with Shepherd’s House United in our local Triangle Area Soccer League, and a die-hard supporter of the NC State Wolfpack.
